Since its introduction in 1984, Double Helix® has been providing a remarkable
degree of database power and speed without sacrificing ease-of-use. This power
is reaching new heights with the introduction of QuickTime technology to the
Double Helix products.
Users can take advantage of the new "Media" data type to store QuickTime Movies
within the database, but it does not end at storage alone! Double Helix provides
the same flexibility for Media data as for any other type of data - storage,
retrieval, calculation, export, import, copy and paste - and it will play your
Movies as well on any Macintosh equipped with QuickTime.
The QuickTime technology has been seamlessly integrated into the entire Double Helix product line, including the award-winning MultiUser version. Acknowledged as both the first client/server architecture and the fastest multi-user database for the Macintosh, Double Helix Client/Server continues to remain at the forefront of technology with the integration of QuickTime in a networked environment.
You can continue to rely on the versatility, speed and ease-of-use of Double Helix for
all your database needs - and maybe even get yourself into the Movies...

Demonstration version
--------------------
On this CD you will find a demonstration version of the Double Helix/MultiMedia product. This version of the product is fully functional - the only restriction being that one cannot enter more than 10 records into each relation in the database. You can save your work, print out samples of your work, and check out all of the features that are found in the regular retail product.
Along with the demonstration version of Double Helix/MultiMedia, one can find several sample Collections that have been built using this product. Each of the Collections has been designed to give you a brief glimpse at the power and flexibility of the Double Helix/MultiMedia product. Each has a small amount of on-line documentation to help describe the how to use the particular Collection.
Once you have explored the Collections we have provided, we encourage you to try your hand at designing a Collection of your own. You can begin by either modifying one of the existing Collections or creating a new Collection from scratch. To modify an existing Collection, select the "Full Mode" command from the "Set" menu once the Collection has been opened. To create a new Collection, select the "New" command from the "File" menu once the existing Collection has been closed.
Full Mode
--------
Full Mode is the design environment within the Double Helix/MultiMedia product. The interface is object-oriented and similar to the Finder in appearance. It provides the building blocks that one needs in order to build a powerful application from a small set of simple, incremental steps.
The printed documentation for the Full Mode environment is large and quite detailed; as such, we have attempted to provide you with a small amount of on-line documentation to help you get going. To access this documentation, make sure that the "Helix Help" file is in the same folder as the Double Helix application. Then, once the application has been launched, select "Help…" from the Apple menu.
